Zionism Is A Carceral Regime

This module explores how carceral logics, tactics, technologies and infrastructures are foundational to the Zionist regime. In addition to exploring the better-known aspects of Israel’s carceral state, such as its expansive system of military courts and administrative detention, the module discusses the mundane carceral violence that permeates every aspect of Palestinian life under occupation — from military checkpoints restricting movement, to the carving of the land into manufactured geopolitical entities, to the theft and enclosure of Palestinian childhood, to the siege on Gaza long described as constituting an open-air prison. Exploring the inherent carcerality of the Zionist regime reveals its fundamentally counterinsurgent function, and centers Palestinian resistance as the persistent threat that must be contained through carceral control.
